Downtown Dublin feels frozen in time, and it doesn’t take much imagination to see yourself in the streets and scenes of a James Joyce story: the same places are still there. But most of the clichés about Dublin are good things. The people are friendly and funny; it always seems to be raining just slightly; the Guinness is fine.
If You Go
I was only there for two days and change and wish I’d been there longer, and wish I wasn’t there in July because of the crowds. Dublin would probably be great in autumn, though it’s north and it does get cool at night. Accommodation is slightly pricey, but the downtown core is very walkable; taxis probably aren’t needed, depending on how much Guinness you’ve had.
