During October-December 1998 I was in Essex, England on a scholarship to work on my Masters thesis. I also traveled with an incredibly unfriendly group of Classics students from Newfoundland there to study Roman history. I didn’t travel much then, as a stale stick of gum costs $14 in Britain, but here are some pictures from when my camera worked and it wasn’t raining too hard to see. I had a good time, despite eating some of the worst food in the world. It’s a good thing English beer is filling or I might not have made it back. I returned to England in August 2014 on a short research trip, and while I mostly was in London I’ve added some pictures from a day in Oxford.
