Guam is an American protectorate and army base in the South Pacific. |
Guam is not Thailand. It’s a small island and best for a short break. There’s basically three cultural activities: 1. eat. (I liked Shamrock’s and Eggs 'n' Things). |
2. Shop. Lots of malls and shops in the tourist Tumon area. (From very frou-frou to mid-level to dollar-store grade. My hotel had its own department store.) |
3. Swim. Any hotel worth its salt in Guam has a pool, and there’s beautiful beaches with warm water and no one bugging you. I stayed at the Guam Plaza. Great hotel. |
You’ll need paperwork to enter the United States. |
I took budget airline Jin Air. File under "Surprisingly Not Bad." A simple snack, and laid-back flight crew in jeans. Pretty much the WestJet of Korea. |
The locals speak fluent English and Chamorro, but in the hotels you’ll also hear Japanese and Korean spoken, with Chinese also shouted. |
Guam has the usual American contempt for public transport, and taxis are expensive (as is everything here). Rent a car– or just stay in Tumon, where most things are walkable. |
