Hong Kong feels like a grittier, more frenetic version of Singapore. Go! Go! Shop! Shop! We stayed in downtown Tsim Tsa Tsui, where every night is a blaze of neon and garish jewelry and people, people, and more people. The food is a little odd and the people a bit mercantile, but it’s not dull. The closest you’ll get to R&R is Stanley Bay with its pretty shorefront, lined with restaurants and (what else) shops.
If You Go
Hong Kong is expensive by Asian standards, but still not bad. The beaches are quite good. Really, though, Hong Kong is for shopping, especially in dead summer or dead winter, when the temperatures can be unpleasant.
