This is Incheon in the northwest of the country, west of Seoul. Much of it is wealthier and newer, and although it isn’t as traditional, it gives a glimpse of perhaps what Korea wants to be.
Often what Koreans try to cover up is what makes it interesting; in an afternoon one can walk through one of these sparkly, slightly soulless
new subdivisions and then see factories, gritty old fish markets, and love-hotel backstreets in another one. I hope these things don’t all disappear.
