In November 1998 I was staying in England and went on a short
solo holiday to Scotland and Belgium. I did this on about £100 (kids,
don’t try this at home). My stay in Edinburgh was chilly (it’s pretty north) and mostly involved walking and doing
some work at the university library, but the people were friendly and haggis is
quite good if you can forget what’s in it.
I made a return trip with my wife in August 2014, about the worst time to come to Edinburgh if you are not going to the Fringe festival. Despite the craziness and crowds, to me it’s still an underrated destination, with better-than-expected scenery and food (granted, it’s not hard to beat English 'cuisine.') We had a fine stay at Rowan House. |
