Venice is all it’s cracked up to be. It’s gorgeous. Stunning scenery, great food. One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been.
If You Go
As much as I loved Venice, 3-6 days is probably enough: it’s small, and as wonderful as Italian food is, there’s not much else when you finally do tire of it. Venice isn’t cheap, but it’s decent value by European standards. I know people have a romantic idea of riding in a gondola, but they’re a rip-off. There are lots of short boat tour packages, and the vaporetti (water buses) will take you anywhere on the island anyway. Check out the beautiful local Murano glass. Bring a paper or smartphone map; you will get lost in the alleys.
